Iran

So I’ve finally found a cause that makes me realize how blessed I am to live where I live. And one that makes me throw off my mask of cynicism and self interest and find something I can actually look at and think, I need to make a difference.
Here we have a real world crisis- one that, even though it is not in our own circle of friends and normal interactions, we must, we absolutely have to pay attention to this tragic time. In Iran, people are protesting, peacefully (mostly, I will not deny the few reports I have heard of violence), and in the style of one of the United States’ most revered men, Dr. Martin Luther King, who preached nonviolence and . For them, and us, this is a time of the civil rights again- a time for every person to stand and demand that their fellow human beings votes, and rights, and simple human dignities be upheld. This election fraud in Iran should not, cannot, and will not be allowed to stand.
It is the duty of an American citizen to stand with their Iranian brethren, and not let this horrible injustice, this tyrannical usurpation of power, which is one and the same as what we fought against in our own Revolutionary War, continue. It is best stated in that masterpiece, the Declaration of Independance “But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such Government, and to provide new Guards for their future security.”
I am not advocating such a drastic change in Iran, though maybe I should be. All in all, this cause, where none other has moved me, has inspired me to write this....

We cannot continue to bury our heads in the sand.

“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”. I cannot, and will not, contradict that.

  1. I have to admit, i'm a little off on my writting skills, so bare with my simplicity.

    Do I agree with equality? independancy? opinion? absolutely. But in situations such as those in the middle east; specifically iran; since this is what you're adressing, it is only our duty to HOPE that citizens of these countries accept and enforce our way of living. In any other matter we can't technically step in or lawfully enforce our ways of government.

    Although it is not the same subject, enforcing government styles is; in the end, similar to enforcing religion in that their way of ruling is a way they've lived for years. Us as a whole, as a country, we can not and do not have the right to fully and forcefully change that.

    Now, wife. =P
    This is not to say that our efforts as a country and completely wrong and we were from the begining, but, as an established country of our own, we have no say so in how and what other countries do with their government - especially when we have so many problems of our own. With governing, with law enforcement, with youth with employment with financial instability.
    And we've had our own Bush v. Gore. Our battle on governing, our battle on how honest an election was, and no one else stepped in [country wise]. I believe that this situation and this issue that the iranians are faced with is one that they should deal with, without us stepping in, for once. I think that it is in our best intrest as a country to not try and enforce our rules as a county, because i feel that this is one serious situation where if we force our hand too much, we will finally face ourselves.
    It is much too much to try and always show other contries, as it is, how to work a military. now to try and show them how to work their government, that's a whole new territory, which already has been protested against.

    We have taken part in a war for 8 years already over every imaginable thing. From justice, to freedom, oil, all of it. one of our main focus' during our own last election was to try and withdraw troops finally and brind them home to families, friends, loved ones. I do strongly believe that in forcing hand during such a sensitive time as election time, we may disturb and aggitate even more than before. Thus leading to longer tours, more unnecessary casualties etc.
